The 2672 Project | How it Came to Be

The 2672 Project was formed because I saw a need. My aunt once said to me, if you see others in need, it is your duty to do something to help them, whatever the situation might be. We need to strengthen our educational efforts and skills for those folks that have been disenfranchised. Our efforts will be focused on those that are homeless and those that have the potential to become homeless.

In 2015, my siblings and I wrote a book, Our Auntie Rosa: The Family of Rosa Parks Remembers Her Life and Lessons.

Within those pages, there’s a story about how Auntie Rosa and her husband, Uncle Parks, and our grandmother were forced to leave Montgomery, AL by threats of violence. My father, her brother, had been asking Auntie Rosa to come north and stay with our family. Finally, they decided to come stay with us in Detroit when the threats reached a point where they knew it was time to leave their beloved home.

Our address was 2672 S. Deacon St. in Detroit. They came there to seek refuge, regroup and get a fresh start. The name the 2672 Project comes from that address where Auntie Rosa came to stay with our family. It symbolizes family, renewal and new beginnings.
